Looking to add a new family member to your home? Have you done your research? Are you ready for a 10+ year commitment? Animals require a lot of physical and mental work, time and money. Please make sure that before you decide to bring an animal into your home, you and your family are ready for it.
At Salty Animal Rescue it’s crucial to us that each adoption is successful. We want to learn as much as possible about you and your family so we can place not only you with the perfect animal, but that animal with the perfect family
At Salty Animal Rescue it’s important to us that each adoption is successful. We want to learn as much as possible about you and your family so we can place you with the perfect pet. Remember that these pets will need time to adjust being in your home. Everything new for them, so patience is key!
If you are interested in a meet and greet with one of our adoptable’s you still must be approved to adopt before hand so we know you are serious. Once you have received the adoption approval you will have 72 hours to arrange pick up from the foster family, unless arranged otherwise through Salty Animal Rescue. We would hate to deny another family the approval of a dog if you weren’t ready to take it for another month, and they were ready the next day.

What They Include
Each animal that comes to Salty Animal Rescue is given the best possible care. We try to go above and beyond the regular standards to ensure that each animal has the best start to their new life. As soon as we receive the animal they are immediately put in a 14 day quarantine. Dogs and cats will be seen by our wonderful vets at Dundas Animal Hospital as soon as possible. There they will be dewormed, treated for fleas and ticks, vaccinated, have a stool sample tested and routine bloodwork done. Our dogs will be tested for Heartworm (not puppies) and Tick-Borne Illnesses (Lyme disease, Anaplasmosis and Erhlichia) and our cats will be tested for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus and Feline Leukemia. We also treat any illnesses any of our animals may come to us with. Our animals do not stay in kennels but instead go to foster homes where they are comfy and cozy surrounded by love. We do not adopt animals out within the 14 day quarantine period. This allows our fosters time to not only begin working on any issues the animal may have, but to also assess their behaviour in order to help place them in the best home. After the 14 days they then become available for adoption but first (if they are over 6 months of age and still intact) they are spayed or neutered. We do prefer them to spend the first bit of their recovery at their foster home but as soon as they are well enough they are then ready to go to their new homes!
Adoption fees vary per type of animal as some require more vet care than others. We understand our adoption fees may be higher than some rescues but it is very important to us to make sure each animal receives only the best care and that they have everything they need in order to be happy and healthy. On average an intact female dog can cost us well over 700$ in routine vet care and a few weeks of supplies (not including treating any health issues or possible training they may need). Most animals are not adopted immediately and we must cover any supplies or vet care they may need, no matter how long they are with us. The cost of each animal’s care can add up very quickly. As a non profit we guarantee that 100% of proceeds go towards the rescue and help us continue rescuing all the other deserving animals out there. It also allows us to do regular spay and neutr clinics and to help with other types animal welfare missions we do. * All Adoption fees are non-refundable we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause
PLEASE NOTE: If an animal is adopted under the age of six months and is not altered, the adoption fee requires an additional deposit, and will be refunded upon completion of spay/neuter. You will have one month from the time they turn 6 months to get the animal altered. When proof is provided we will gladly refund your deposit. Failure to do so results in you forfeiting your deposit, and Salty Animal Rescue will consider the deposit as a donation and has the rights to remove the animal from your care.
